There was once a girl named Tori that lived in a small kingdom. For the most part it was a quiet and peaceful. No extreme tragedy. No surprise attack from neighboring kingdoms, not even so much a small epidemic. That was until one day…
*~*~*~*

“Tori, Tori, Tori!” a young girl’s voice called out. Tori looked up for the book in her hands to see her younger sister dashing towards her. “What is it Terra?” Tori asked. “I wanted to see if Big Sister would read to me.” Tori giggled at Terra’s enthusiasm. “Sure, what would you like to hear?”“I wanna hear the one about the princess and the vampire” Terra squealed. “Again? You’ve heard that story a hundred times already. Why do love it so much?” Terra’s eyes went wide.

“Because Big Sister is the princess in the story.” It was true the princess in the story was named Tori as well. “Just because we have the same name doesn’t mean I’m a princess Terra.” Terra pouted but didn’t say anything; so Tori took it as a sign to start reading.

After about an hour of Tori reading to Terra a strange sound rumbled through the air. “Tori what’s that-” Tori was never able to hear what Terra was about to say for at that moment everything was engulfed in flames.
*~*~*~*

When Tori awoke, she woke up to a horrific sight. Everything around her was burned to ash; homes, shops, businesses. Everything gone.
Realization hit her, this was her home and everything was now gone. Tori couldn’t help but fall to her knees and scream and cry for what seemed like hours.

“Are done making such a ruckus?” Tori looks up to see a man. His piercing steel gray eyes bore in her violet ones. “W-who-” “Shiro.” Short and simple came Shiro’s reply.
“ Do you know what happened?” Tori asked him, but got no reply. “Hey are you listening to me?” She yelled.
“Jeez you’re noisy. Can’t you tell when someone’s trying to think, you brat?” His voice was cold and void of emotion. “To explain the situation, basically you have to save your world from the Demon King Lucas. He’s come to take over your world and you are the only one that can stop him. So now you must come with me to the Spiritual World ” He explained.
He’s a lune.” She thought. “Well that’s nice and all Mr. Shiro but I think you have the wrong person so… yeah see you later.” Tori turned to walk away when Shiro appeared in front of her.
“How?” “You are the one who is wrong Tori, you are the one who will save both the Spiritual and the World of the Living, and you will come with me. Now stop being a brat and come with me.” His tone was harsh and his eyes seem to cut through her very soul, freezing her in place.

Shiro grabbed her arm and lead her to a portal; the winds whipped around violently, snapping Tori out of her trance. “H-HEY!” She screamed. “Where are you taking me?” No reply. “You can’t be taking me to that Spiritual World right?” Still nothing.
Having enough of being ignored, Tori mustered up enough strength to kick Shiro in the back. “You want proof you little brat fine!” Shiro roared. Tori was about to ask what he meant, but any sound that would have came out got caught in her throat. Before her was a wasteland that looked worse than her own home.

“What… what happened?” She wondered aloud.
Shiro sighed, “This is what Lucas has been doing to the World of the Living, now unless you want the world to suffer the same fate, I suggest that we leave now. Who knows we might even be able to save your family.” Finally Tori related, closed her eyes and traveled through the portal with Shiro.

*~*~*~*

When Tori opened her eyes again, what she saw was not what she expected. Instead of seeing a hellish sight, with ash and flames; she was in a meadow and with green grass and bright sun. It was a calm place and made her feel at ease. “Were you expecting different?” Shiro’s voice cut through her thoughts. She was about to answer, when he let out a small chuckle. “Humans are amusing with your legends on what is beyond death.”

She was about to retort when a soft voice spoke. “Always so noisy Shiro.” Tori turned to see a small figure rising out of a stream on the side of the meadow. It looked to be a young girl; her hair was a shimmering powder blue, the same color were her eyes. Her attire was a traditional Japanese Kimono. “Mizuki, I thought I told you to stay in the water where it was safe.” Shiro scolded her.

Mizuki just glared up at the taller man. “For your information I was saving a lost soul. He was helpless and badly injured from Lucas’s last attack on the humans.” Shiro nodded and mumbled something to Mizuki that Tori couldn’t make out. Then the bluenette made her way back to the water, motioning for Tori and Shiro to follow.

*~*~*~*

Under the water lay Mizuki’s home, where a young man with sandy blonde hair lay unconscious. When Tori entered Mizuki's home she recognized him immediately. "ALFRED!" Tori screamed and ran over to where the blonde lay unconscious. "I take it you know this boy?" She heard Mizuki's voice behind her. Tori could only nod as she looked at Alfred.
Tori and Alfred had been friends for as long as she could remember, and over time she developed a crush for him. When Alfred told Tori that he wanted to join the army she supported him, even though she was terrified for his safety.

“I found him like this, only in much worse for wear.” Mizuki spoke as she laid a reassuring hand on Tori’s shoulder; it felt as warm as her mother’s touch. “It’s so comforting.” Tori thought. “He should wake up soon.” Tori made a noise of acknowledgment.
It was what Tori assumed to be after dark when Alfred regained consciousness. He opened his eyes revealing two shining blue orbs, looking up at Tori.

“T-Tori, wha.. how… where?” Words stuttered out of his mouth in a constant flow, until Tori silenced him. Then she spent the next half hour explaining the situation to Alfred. “Then I wanna help too!” Alfred declared. “A scumbag like that doesn’t deserve to live after he dares to destroy our home.” He proclaimed.

Mizuki looked to Shiro who thought for a moment before nodding. “Alright since there is such enthusiasm then the plan of attack can proceed as planned.” Mizuki said. “In order to defeat Lucas we need to attack his carriage when he leaves for his cave at dawn.” Shiro started. “It’ll be when he’s at his most vulnerable, for he needs to rest after such an attack.”
The rest of the of the plan consisted of Alfred stopping the carriage, leading Shiro and Mizuki to take out the guards and driver, finally leaving Tori open to attack Lucas.”

“Hey why do I get the crappy job? I should get more of justice; it was my kingdom too.” Alfred complained and glared at Shiro. “Because you are the weakest out of the four of us.” Shiro replied in a bored tone. “What do you mean I’m the weakest?!” “I means exactly what I said. If you don’t like your role in the attack, then you can leave.” Before Alfred and Shiro’s argument to could escalate, Tori spoke. “Um what exactly am I to do? I don’t have any powers.” Mizuki walked up to her and simply said, “You’ll have them when the time comes. For now let’s all get some rest.” All three nodded, but Alfred was still glaring at Shiro.

*~*~*~*

Everything went horribly wrong in the plan; the king was ready for them. They didn’t stand a chance and payed the price dearly. So the group had to make a hasty retreat, with Shiro carrying Tori. “This is it.” Tori thought. “I’m… gonna… die” Then she lost consciousness.

When she woke back up, Tori saw that they were back in Mizuki’s house and that Shiro was sitting beside her bed. “Glad to see you’re awake.” He said. “I’m not dead? Shiro you saved my life?” Shiro simply looked away, not meeting Tori’s gaze and mumbled something inaudible.

“What?” “I said you cannot save the life of someone who does not have one.” Tori looked to him with a puzzlement look in her eyes. “Shiro what do you mean?” When Shiro didn’t respond Tori understood. “You don’t mean? And you didn’t tell me!” Tori raised her voice. “How could you not tell me that I was already dead?” Tori was beyond mad, she was furious. “Tori I couldn’t tell you, and I still cannot tell you the reason why, but you have to trust me when I say-”

SLAP

“HOW CAN I BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU SAY? YOU DECEIVED ME!” She yelled and stormed out. Shiro was stunned and watched helpless as Tori dashed away. “Shouldn’t you go after her? Tori could get in grave danger.” He turned and saw Mizuki in the doorway. “No, I have to wait until she’s cooled down. I know better than to go after an enraged woman.” Mizuki may not have like his decision but could see how it was the best. “May the spirits protect her.” Mizuki prayed.

*~*~*~*

Alfred watched as Tori sobbed into her knees and felt a pain in his chest to see his friend in such agony. So Alfred ran over to her. “Tori.” He called out to her. She did not lift her head, so he lifted it for her. “Hey Tori what’s wrong?” She sniffled and embraced him.

“Everything is meaningless now.” Her voice cracked with every word. “I can never see my family; I’m dead. Even if we do defeat Lucas, what’s the point? It’s not like I can be with them..”
Alfred patted her head and whispered, “Hey think about it this way, if you defeat King Lucas, then your family can live and be happy. They can live long lives.”

“ This also isn’t just about your family, think about the whole world being at stake. Okay, you’ll be doing a lot of good.” Tori nodded. “T-thank you Alfred.” She whispered. “ I feel better.”

They stayed in each other’s embrace for a few more moments. “Tori I have an idea to defeat King Lucas ourselves.” Alfred stated.
“But we couldn’t even defeat him went all four of us attacked. What could the two of us do?” Alfred looked straight into Tori’s eyes and said, “ That attack was staged. Shiro and Mizuki are actually working with King Lucas; that’s why they gave you a job that you could never do and gave me a worthless job. So how bout it doll?” Tori could feel the truth in Alfred’s words; so the two of them left for King Lucas’ castle.

*~*~*~*

Alfred and Tori snuck through the castle in search for the king. Though the further they traveled in the castle, the more nervous she got. All the hallways became darker and the ora of the place was questionable. “Alfred are you sure know where you’re going?” She asked. “Of course I do, don’t worry your pretty little head dollface.” Alfred replied. “Dollface? Alfred never calls me that.” She thought. “Al how do you know where we’re going?” Alfred then stopped abruptly and turned around.

“Because Dollface this is your new home.” He snarled and roughly pushed Tori into an open cell and slammed the door shut. “Alfred!” Tori cried. “

Why are you doing this!” Alfred then started chuckling. “Alfred why are you doing this” He said in a mocking voice as “Alfred’s” appearance began to alter. Instead of the bright blue eyes they were as black as the darkened sky and crimson hair that seemed to have been stained with blood. “Hehe Dollface I ain’t Alfred, I’m just demon who wore his skin. Name’s Yokai nice to meet cha.” Yokai teased. “Now watch as your world is-” Yokai was not able to finish his sentence for he was stabbed through the chest with a liquid sword.

“Geez you can’t seem to stay out of trouble can you Brat?” Tori knew that voice; looking up she saw Shiro with Mizuki standing beside him.

“Guys?!” Tears prickled in Tori’s eyes, never before had she been so happy to see them. “Come on we don’t have time for talk Tori.” Shiro yelled; Tori nodded and they ran out of the cells. Where they ran right in to King Lucas. “Well well well, if it isn’t the little human girl Tori.” King Lucas’s voice came out in a purr and was silky smooth. “How dare you do this you son of -”

“Uh uh uh sweet girl. It isn’t very lady like to swear now is it. What would your dear mommy and daddy think if they heard you?” The king teased. “You know what I’ve just about had enough of you, you sick twisted poor excuse for a creature!” Tori charged blindly at the demon. Shiro and Mizuki tried to stop her, but failed. Light flowed from Tori’s hands enveloping King Lucas in a blinding light; a light that could only be described as heavenly. Then he exploded in little light particles. “It’s finally over.” Tori thought before collapsing. “Tori are you okay?” Shiro yelled and ran over to her. “ I’m fine, just a bit tired.”

When the trio got outside, Mizuki spoke. “ Everything has returned to normal back in the World of the Living. As for your family Tori, they’re fine.” Tori breathed a sigh of relief at that news. “You can go home now Tori.” Shiro said. “What do you mean I’m dead.”
“That’s the thing you didn’t let me explain; the reason I did not tell you is because it wouldn’t matter. Killing Lucas enables you to go back home.”
Tori smiled at that. “That’s nice but I think I’m gonna stay here. Someone needs to be here and look after both worlds to make sure this never happens again.”
“That’s very noble of you Tori.” Mizuki praised. Shiro just smirked and said. “That’s a big job for a little brat. Though I know you can do it.”

Whhhoooo I finally got something out!!!!! *does little party dance*
I've actually had this on my computer for a long while now, but I didn't want to upload it because I'm doing a full, and better version of this at some point. But then I thought eh what the hell. This one is gonna be different then this because it'll be more flushed and I've changed some character's names and backstories.

As for why this version is like this is because, this was something that I did for my writing class and it had to fit a certain length, I think it was no more then 4 pages.

As for disclaimer: All these characters are mine, and the so is the plot
